Where Did My Childhood Go, 2023

This piece transforms personal memory into a tactile meditation on loss, tenderness, and self-construction. Woven in bright colors and layered with childlike motifs, the Jacquard tapestry features a teary-eyed central figure engulfed in Hello Kitty plushies—objects that evoke both comfort and concealment. These symbols of innocence double as armor, gesturing to the ways Black and brown femme children are often denied the fullness of childhood. Through this soft yet sorrowful visual language, the tapestry is not just a self-portrait, but a shrine to what was taken, what remains, and what is still being reclaimed.
