I was compelled to wear a badge when I turned eighteen, marking formal membership in an evangelical Christian cult. The badge functioned as a tool of compulsory belonging, enforcing conformity through a visual language of peace, faith, and authority. The symbol is removed from the body and subjected to physical transformation. What I once wore as a mark of obedience becomes a way to examine religious coercion, the colonial imposition of Christianity, and the distance between inherited Christian practice and the African spiritual traditions of my ancestors.
