A Body Bent on Apology, 2025
Paraffin wax, dye
26 in x 22 in
Cast in wax that evokes the tonality and texture of Black skin, blood, and fragmented bone, this piece is materially fragile yet thematically unflinching. The sculpture recalls both the crucifixion and the lynching tree, simultaneously invoking the Christian iconography of sacrificial suffering and challenging the theological machinery that has weaponized guilt and salvation against colonized bodies. Who is apologizing? To which god? And for what crime?
